Will computers keep changing at such a fast pace?

Computers change at such as fast rate because at the end of the day, it all comes down to how many transistors and other electronic parts can fit onto microchips. This figure almost double's every 18 months which causes computers to become faster and able to complete the same tasks faster, and do tasks that were previously impossible. While there are many ways that programs also evolve to do "more with less" the focus is simply on speed and efficiency rather than using what we have at the present.
