Can my father sue his surgeon for not doing the procedure discussed?

Hello, I'm just wondering if you or your father has asked the surgeon about his reasons for doing what he did instead of what he had described previously? Sometimes when they already have a patient opened up they realise that it's not suitable to do what they had planned, so they improvise. Obviously if they haven't "fixed" the problem you should go back and talk over what pain he is still experiencing with the surgeon and work out a better pain management plan. I'm not sure about the legalities of this situation, but I personally would not pursue it legally. But I ume you live in the US, and I believe people there do take a lot more legal action than where I live, so it's worth a shot. Would you be aiming to get compensation?
