Shaving/waxing pubic hair question ?

How do you shave the outer lips of the because I get kind nervous that I'm going to cut myself, I already do the rest except for the lips. Would waxing be better, but I'd do it myself. Also what are the cons of waxing yourself, like what if the wav gets inside? Sorry if I'm asking dumb questions but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
