I want people to download my original songs, what is the best format to have?

I am a musician and I recently created a website for my band, but i want for people to be able to download a copy of my CD and to be able to hear it on the mayority of CD players (house stereo, car stereo, etc..), what is the best format to have on my songs? mp3,wav, or is there something better?
